Day 2

Istanbul - full day

(breakfast, lunch included)
Today you get your first proper look at Istanbul. You will be picked up from your accommodation before heading off to see some of the major attractions of this incredible city. We first visit the Blue Mosque, the breathtaking Hagia Sophia and then explore Topkapi Palace. You also get a taste of some of the best shopping in Istanbul as the tour takes you through the aisles of the Grand Bazaar – one of the largest covered markets in the world - followed by a visit to the Spice Bazaar.

Highlights of the day include: the Rumeli Fortress, where the Ottoman Empire fought to hold onto Istanbul and then a cruise along the Bosphorus Sea and under the Bosphorus Bridge. You also get to visit Dolmabahce Palace, which was built by the Sultans with European flare and style. Q: Is the tour fully guided all the way through?
A: Yes, there are specialist guides at the main sites but there is not a "tour leader" holding your hand all day, every day. This tour is an itinerary for more independent travellers and groups to follow with everything included: accommodation, lots of meals, a 4-day cruise, transportation, entrances to sites in Istanbul, Troy, Pergamon, Pamukkale, Ephesus and Cappadocia. There is not a single guide with you all the way through but you will have specialist guides looking after you and taking you around all the sites and museums while in the main destinations. Of course you will also have your lovely crew looking after you on your boat!
Q: What food is included?
A: For full day-by-day details on meal inclusions, see the "Itinerary and Map" tab on the left and your included meals are highlighted underneath each day's title.
Q: What if I am vegetarian or have other special dietary requirements, how can you help me?
A: You should tell us about your special dietary requirements before your tour starts and our onboard cook will do their best to cater for them on the boat. Meals on board are also served buffet style so you can pick and choose what suits your diet most. For the other meals on land there are always vegetarian options.
Q: I am a solo traveller - if I don't want to share my cabin on the boat, can I pay a single supplement?
A: Yes, you can pay a single supplement - please email us for prices. You must also book your single cabin and rooms in advance.
Q: Can I bring my own food and drink on board the boat?
A: You can only bring your own snacks on board such as peanuts, crisps, biscuits etc. But you cannot bring your own drinks including water.
Q:Can I pay for my bar tab on the boat by credit card?
A: Our gulets do not have card facilities onboard. All payments for your bar tab can be made only by cash locally on your last day before you check out of the boat.
Q: Do I have to have any insurance?
A: We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance before you go.
Q: Are there any power sockets on board?
A: Some boats have power sockets in cabins and some have them only in the salon area. You can use the power sockets when the engine or generator is on.
Q: Are there towels provided on board?
A: No, you will not be provided with towels. You should definitely bring your own bath and beach towels.
Q: Why doesn't the tour include the hot-air balloon excursion?
A: We used to include it (and the tour was more expensive as a result) but we found many guests were either afraid of heights, did not wish to get up so early or just did not fancy the idea. So by having it as an add-on excursion (and lowering the price of the whole tour) rather than an opt-out, people can choose to have it included.
